We need to remember that one of the things about life and business is that all things change.
We usually only discuss this in some far off, philosophical way, but when you apply the concept to your organization, you see the same is true.
As an example from the world of sports, the New York Yankees are rebuilding now and they have fought this concept for a long time…trying to buy free agents to remain relevant. But organizational inertia caught up with the team, and the lack of new prospects eventually drug the team back down to the pack. This is the same thing that is at play in your organization.
If you don’t have a churn on your ideas and plans, you will find yourself slipping back into the pack.
The best run organizations are happy to kill an idea, a service, or a product off because it has run its course and is only a legacy of a different time.
