A Quick Guide To Creating A Good Community Outreach Program

I needed to create an outline for a hypothetical community outreach program this morning and as I was doing it, I thought it might be useful to you to see the basic outline so that you might be able to apply it the next time you are thinking about doing an outreach program.

Let me know your thoughts in the comments below.

1.  Initiate the Project:

Define the project by creating a brief outline of what you are trying to do and why.  Then take it to the various bosses and stakeholders so that you can get the go ahead.

2.  Plan the Project:

What’s the scope of the project?   Objective?  What’s the course of action?

This is the part where you answer the 5 W’s and How.

You want to find out who you are trying to reach.  How you will do it.  Why its important.  What are the objectives and measurements of success.  When will you do the project.  Where will the events surrounding this outreach program happen.  How are you going to deliver.

3.  Execute the Plan.

4.  Monitor and Control the Project:

Track, review and regulate the project.  Look at your objectives and numbers and if you identify areas that need improvement and act to improve them.

5.  Close Out the Project:

Shut down the project.  Look back at the project and see how your activities look against your initial targets.  Make note of what worked, what didn’t work and set in place notes and guidelines so that your next outreach program doesn’t start over from the very beginning next time.
