Reinvention: Where To Begin?

As I have pretty much stated in every post this year, I am using three words to guide me in 2011.  Those words are reinvention, challenge, and excel.

For me, the key word that will drive all the others is reinvention.  I think if you are reinventing yourself, you are giving yourself a new set of challenges and, hopefully, new and different areas from which you have the opportunity to excel.

I’ve begun my reinvention process by taking out some new books and some old books; a blank notebook where I can put down my goals; and, taken some time to really reflect on what I want to achieve in the coming years.

In looking for goals to achieve, I have set about compartmentalizing everything into 7 areas:

Career

Financial

Personal Development

Family

Spiritual

Social

Physical

Now trying to list everything I want to achieve in each area would be arduous and also lessen the likelihood of achieving anything.  But, if I set one big goal in each area, I believe that that big goal will pull me through the smaller goals that I want to get to along the way.

So here are the big goals for this year.

1.  Career:  Earn my highest amount ever

2.  Financial:  Eliminate unnecessary debts

3.  Personal Development:  Begin coursework on a Master’s

4.  Family:  Spend at least one morning a week completely focusing on my family

5.  Spiritual:  Develop a consistent meditation practice

6.  Social:  Get out at least once a week and do something where I can meet and interact with friends and/or new people.

7.  Physical:  Complete my first ultramarathon
