The BIG Ticket: “The Price of Admission” on CBS/ The 15/75/15 Rule

Hi!

If you haven’t had a chance to watch the CBS report from the weekend, here you go:

I won’t go into too much of this.

Most of you have a feel for this stuff.

I’ll highlight a few things that this brought to mind for me, though:

First, I’ve been watching the ongoing back and forth between Scott Friedman and Ticket Junky

It has gotten pretty nasty.

Why?

Scott has highlighted an issue in the secondary market: using multiple accounts to game the Ticketmaster on-sale process.

He called out the activity.

The CEO of Ticket Junky has been going after Scott ever since.

Second, I read Tony Knopp’s idea on bad guys finding a way also about Ticket Junky.

Finally, I read a piece on “State Capture” and corruption in government

This all coalesced around the 15-75-15 Rule in The Economist article.

The rule comes from police corruption and says:

  • 15% of cops drive the corruption.
  • 70% go along with the corruption.
  • 15% are good.

I don’t know what the exact numbers in tickets would be.

Many people go along because they feel that nothing can or will change.

That’s how I felt about this CBS report.

It is fine.

The resellers come off poorly.

Brooke Silva-Braga has it right when he says that all of these people come to the issue from the POV of self-interest.

It is just like the recent ticket executive order, this report won’t change a thing.

But it is an interesting thing to consider the 15/70/15 rule and think about what real, positive change would look like.
