🥳🎆🕛 Happy New Year!

Hi!

Happy New Year!

I’ve been reading through my emails with folks sharing philosophical ideas on what 2023 will hold and what they will do.

In 2021, I took a strategy certification from the Judge School of Business at Cambridge University.

If I distill my learning into one catchy sentence it would be: Forget your best-laid plans, pick a direction, and know that the road will be windy and bumpy. You’ll have to adjust accordingly.

As we head into 2023, I think that lesson will likely be valuable to all of us because we don’t know what the year ahead will hand us.

What we can do is set our intentions and directions, take aim, and know that the path we take to get to our destination is likely to be filled with curves. But, we continue forward.

What will you get from me this year?

I’m going to lean into strategy a lot more. Everywhere we look, we can see the lack of strategy present where actions are willy-nilly and there is no sense of direction. Often folks will tell me “they don’t do strategy” and I tell them that not having a strategy is a strategy and it leads to chaos.

I’m going to share a lot more about brand strategy this year. I have a cool teaching opportunity that is coming up this year around brand strategy. So I’ll be developing those ideas even more.

Pricing. The OG article on pricing, “Discounts are for Dummies!” holds up after all these years. Pricing is so important and for me, it is an area that allows me great differentiation.

And, I’m sure I’ll share some more stuff on my travels, books, drinks, and other ideas because what fun would it be if we didn’t get into that at all?

So, happy new year.

Let’s hope that 2023 is a year of happiness, joy, fun, and success.

And, after 2022: health…never neglect your health.
