🗺️ Frameworks: Tools, Not Ties!

A framework used well allows you to think.

The Big Idea: Frameworks are shortcuts. They shouldn’t be restrictive. They should be freeing.

Frameworks can be your greatest gift or your worst enemy.

A friend of mine mentioned how she hates frameworks because people use them in a way that makes all strategies seem the same.

Fair point!

I’m fond of the freedom that frameworks can provide you like thinking about delivering your marketing strategy by using the 4 Ps.

A simple framework that helps you hit all the key parts of your work.

Why do people fall into the sameness trap?

  • Lazy thinking
  • Rushing through their strategy
  • Lack of fundamentals

How do you use a framework well?

  • Ground yourself in strategic thinking: Where are you heading?
  • Recognize that the framework is a checklist, not handcuffs.
  • Use it to test your decisions for gaps.

There are infinite ways to use frameworks well and poorly. Your mileage in both cases will vary.

Take action: Focus on the framework as a process not a solution.

Quote: “Systems thinking, complexity theory, and development evaluation together offer an interpretive framework for engaging in sense making.” —Michael Quinn Patton

Let me know what you think of the new format. Each week, I’m going to take a topic that I have been thinking about or hearing about. Then, I’ll address it as I do in my own special way.

If you have a topic you want to hear about, drop me a note.

Also, keep an eye out because I’m going to do some new meet-ups, courses, and webinars in the next few weeks.

If you dig this: share it!
