Big Ideas In The Empathy Economy: You Can’t Outsource Compassion

One thing that Big Data will never teach us is how to act human.

That’s one of the big challenges we will have to overcome in The Empathy Economy, the fact that we need more humanity in our business environment.

I was listening to Seth Godin’s new podcast, Akimbo, and he talked about the need to be seen.

In Seth’s view, one of the big challenges of industrialization is that we have tried to grind out everything that isn’t uniform from our business world and society.

That’s the exact opposite of the empathy economy.

In the empathy economy, we are focused on how we can be unique. And, more importantly, in the empathy economy we need to focus on the compassion and humanity that drives what makes us different and compelling.

In my view, the idea of a Stepford Wife is exactly the opposite of what is going to make the empathy economy go.

The cookie cutter, one size fits all mentality isn’t going to help you stand out in the empathy economy.

The one thing that will compassion. You are going to have to understand what people want, how to make them feel special, and how to win them over so that they will come back to you over and over again.
