In talking with a fellow consultant recently, we went down the rabbit hole of “culture."
I’m not one that simply buys into the idea of culture as the end all be all, but my colleague made a good point…for certain parts of an organization "culture” is king.
Look at the Oakland Raiders in football, NBC News in media, or Barack Obama’s two campaigns for president. You see that culture counts a lot more than we think…and it can carry or destroy something pretty easily.
Now, do I think that culture is the end all be all…I still don’t because you might have tons of really nice people that fit a culture and they don’t deliver results, but if they don’t have skills.
But…you can have a lot of skill and not have a great culture.
So…be careful with both.
