I’m on a British kick lately. But the picture above is Sherlock Holmes from an old BBC TV show.
I use that because Sherlock Holmes is pretty much the default setting for many of us when we think about solving problems.
In many of our businesses, we too often are more ostrich and less Sherlock.
We are much too prone to staying the course with the ideas and solutions that have always been used or have been tried before.
It is almost a given that too many professionals stick to their comfort zone, not expanding their professional networks to include people from other industries with other POVs.
Why?
Ease, I guess.
But the thing is, many of our challenges have already been solved in other industries or they have tools and technologies and ideas that can be applied to another industry with great success.
This is why it pays to search for clues, not just in the same places, but all over.
