It goes without saying, but you probably need to watch out for buzzwords…no matter what industry you are in or what field you are discussing.
Things like “ninjas,” “Jedis,” “mavens,” etc. probably are a sure sign of lazy, inaccurate thinking and details…
As an example, I remember pretty clearly when everyone was talking about “synergy.”
And, over a very short time, the world become pointless, and stood in for the kind of language that made people tune out and fail to participate in a meeting, discussion, or activity.
Now, we are in danger of this same thing happening with the words I used above…instead of trying to think of a pithy, buzzy word to use to make yourself sound hip and with it…why don’t you spend a little extra time on formulating an exact answer to the question or topic you are trying to discuss.
Several things will happen if you do:
* You will ask better questions or make better statements.
* You will get better information in return.
* You will stimulate a more interesting and useful conversation.
