The Live Sporting Event and FourSquare

I’ll warn you early on, I haven’t perfected my thoughts on this topic, but I do have a few ideas on ways that FourSquare and sports teams could have fun with the platform, engage their fans a little more, help their sponsorship partners and maybe generate a little more revenue.

I’m just going to go out and list them in bullet point:

  • Offer a badge with the check-in with a stadium highlight that the team is looking to emphasize
  • Have fan ambassadors at locations throughout the stadium and have the ambassador have a prize, gift, or other item that allows the team and fan to interact
  • Create contests driven by checking in at the game
  • Offer fans discounts for their FourSquare check-in at certain stands, stores, or kiosks
  • A sponsor could offer a special at check-in, or direct the fans to an appointed section at the stadium for a game or other giveaway
  • The badges and offerings could be pushed to fans at different points during the game (like a hot dog special, or ‘don’t forget beer sales end at the bottom of the 7th)

These are just a few off the cuff thoughts on the topic.  I’ve been trying out ideas on how to create a better live event experience.  I’m sure some of these might not work in practice, and I wouldn’t want them to take away from the game, but they are some points of conversation.

Thoughts?
