As I survey the landscape of America and the globe, I hear and read a lot about a lack of leadership skills, or, as is a common phrase these days, a “leadership gap."
The fact is, there isn’t really a leadership gap that doesn’t start with the executives and managers that talk about this gap. The primary driver of lack and underdeveloped leadership skills in our organizations and businesses today is that young leaders, young managers, and high potential employees see the too many leaders getting rewarded for poor leadership skills, bad behavior, and poor management. Until this stops, we won’t see a true end to anything that resembles a "leadership gap."
