One thing that I am asked about pretty regularly is what is the difference between working on projects in small businesses vs. non-profits vs. big businesses vs. government.
The answer is both simple and complex…but one point really makes a big difference in your perspective. That is, all businesses and situations are unique. You can’t approach all small businesses the same way, the same way you wouldn’t approach a large business and a non-profit the same way.
The key to consulting or working in different sized organizations is that you need to have strong processes that you work through and that you need to understand that each situation is going to be different, that each project will have its own unique challenges, and that you can’t take a one size fits all approach to your business.
