Here’s the deal…I still get 1 or 2 newspapers, most days.
The question many of you are going to ask is “are those things still relevant?”
My answer would be yes. Here is why.
1. You need to stay current on a wide array of happenings in the world to be a really good businessperson.
This might seem simple, but you would be surprised how many times I come across people and I bring up something that I feel is common knowledge only to have people give me a strange look that seems to imply that I have 3 or 4 heads because I know that.
Even if you scan the headlines and read a few extra articles, its a good investment of 15-30 minutes a day to read through the newspaper.
2. “But my social media streams and RSS feeds have everything I need.”
You might be wrong. Having go to sites and feeds is great. But you still probably aren’t going to get the full compliment of variety that you can use to advance your goals.
This bears repeating, if you see something happen in a different industry, you might have a chance to use this in your industry, whatever the case may be.
3. I don’t have time….
Sure you do. Put the Twitter feed away. Or Facebook. Or Instagram. Or whatever is eating your time.
Schedule your time so that you have time to educate yourself.
It is as simple as that.
So yes newspapers are still relevant because you still need to explore a lot of different areas each day if you want to be a great businessperson. Period.
