5 Words Or Phrases That Are Totally BS…

Don’t let the headline fool you…

These 5 words and phrases are totally BS, but they are great marketing because they get people to believe them.

1.  “job creators”:  Republicans rolled this one out sometime around 2010.  Its a way to give cover to high income people that they are protecting from tax increases.

2.  “liberal media”:  I get it before you even email me and complain that I have a liberal bias.  The first two on this list are definitely ones that people that consider themselves “conservative” are going to disagree with.  And, I am sure that by the time that I get done with the list there will be more, but don’t think of it as a slight, Republicans are great at creating messages that stick, even if they don’t reflect a completely realistic view of what they are describing.

3.  “social media expert, ninja, etc.”:  If you see someone that says that they are an expert, ninja, or anything else besides a marketer that understands the concepts and uses of social media as a way to strengthen the brand and drive sales, they are a clown…plain and simple.

4.  The “next” anything:  Look, everyone has heard about the next Apple, Facebook, Michael Jordan and so on…but its a totally bogus term.  No one is the next anything.  Just be yourself, get on with it.

5.  “Conservative”:  I warned you at #2 that I might have another one that might make you right leaning readers angry, but let’s admit it.  This thing called “conservative” isn’t anywhere near “conservative."  Look up the definition and you’ll find that it means to preserve existing conditions, institutions, or restore traditional ones.  And, you will find that lip service is paid to this, but that in truth, most of what is being bandied about under the conservative banner is in fact radical.

What all 5 of these things have in common is that they have been effectively used to communicate something and have that term stick.  All 5 of these terms are sticky.
