I just got back on Saturday from one of the best vacations I have ever had. I went to Club Med’s Sandpiper Bay resort in Port St Lucie, Florida. That being said, you’d have no idea you were in Florida.
More importantly, you don’t get great cell phone reception at Sandpiper Bay and you don’t spend a lot of time in your room, watching TV, surfing the Internet, or doing anything much that you would do indoors.
So I had a lot of time to sit outside with no distractions. What I found was that multitasking is probably the biggest drain of mental energy that I know.
When I am at home or on business, I am plugged in, on the Internet, reading a document, etc and how much of my best thinking is wasted? I think a great deal.
So my big takeaway from my vacation is that I need to focus on 1 item at a time.
