Where I’ve Come From, Where I’m Going (Part 1)

For a long time I have thought about writing a novel called What I Was.  I always felt that this described the journey I had taken in my life, through the different incarnations that made up Dave, and have often been left behind by a quick flick of the wrist and an ability to reinvent myself as something entirely different by the shear willingness to challenge myself.

What’s interesting about this is that I have struggled, like most people, to find out what to do next.  I’d like to give a little credit to the economy and the way that we all ended up suffering at some level due to the fact that markets tightened and all of that other la la la.

But that doesn’t really hit at the heart of it.

For one, how I got to the point I am at is, and, at the same time, is not important.  I think that linear progression has a place.  In fact, if there is too much linear progression, that might be a signal that there wasn’t enough risk, not enough life thrown into your life.  Or, that is what I tell myself.

My path has been decidedly without a linear progression.

And for me that isn’t the interesting part….

It is how can you take the experiences and knowledge you have gained to improve yourself and to take on different challenges.  Or, even better, how can you use the information and experiences you have had to connect with more people, maybe help guide them through a similar or different situation and help make your and their corner of the world a little bit better place?

That’s what I am going to talk about in the next few posts….
