What My Ideal Job Title Would Be

Organizational Architect & Chief Storyteller

I mention this because I’ve been reading and re-reading a lot of business books over the last few weeks and Seth Godin’s ‘Lynchpin’ stands out as an extremely valuable book of career advice.

Which brings me back to me ideal title and why:

First of all, minus odd jobs that I have had to do at various times that were necessary when I was in need of money, I have been involved in building and developing the structures and processes of companies.  Either I have done that for myself, as a small business owner or have worked for companies that were looking to expand and I have helped them develop new processes or protocols that allowed for greater growth.

That’s where the organizational architect comes from.

The Chief Storyteller comes because most of the time that I have been in businesses that are hospitality, entertainment, marketing, or advertising and that is all storytelling.

To prove my point, think about my time in nightclubs….

When you are making a decision on where you are going to hang out and have fun, what are you doing but telling yourself a story about what you want to have come out of the evening.  If you are feeling like a quiet night with a glass of wine and maybe an appetizer or something like that, you are looking for a different story than if you are trying to party it up with a big group of friends.

And, when you are involved in a nightclub, you are trying to tell the story that your nightclub is the best one going….that you are going to have awesome drinks, great music, and that you are going to meet lots of cool people.

So….Organizational Architect & Chief Storyteller it is.
