Most of the time our focus is jumping all over the place. I think that has to be in large part due to the concentration of noisy items that are always calling out for our attention.
And, what does all this erratic and needless noise do to us, it causes us to lose focus on the things that are most important to us and our business.
Which can become a really big problem because we only have a limited amount of certain resources like time, money, energy, and attention.
A hidden factor, not listed above, and one that we really have to work our asses off to maintain, is our enthusiasm.
Which if you aren’t focusing on the right things at the right times can be lost faster than anything.
What would I consider the biggest reducer of enthusiasm and passion, being focused on the wrong things or not focusing on the right things.
That’s why the secret question for all of us needs to be occasionally: Am I in the right business or market?
Whatever form you like it to take.
The key is to make sure you are serving the right audience.
If you are, your enthusiasm should remain high and you should find your offerings being taken more seriously.
If you aren’t, you will know that because of the dull ache of lackluster day after lackluster day.
The key isn’t really knowing whether or not you are in the right area, but in taking action to get into the right areas if you have allowed yourself to slip.
