Back To Basics #1: Hitting and Catching

opening-day-1-940x500

As baseball season is less than a week old, it got me thinking about how spring training is a time when players and their teams start working on their basics: hitting, pitching, defense, situations…etc.

And, considering that we spend so much time on our businesses, it is not really something that we ever really have the chance to do, stop and take a much needed break that allows us to recompose ourselves and go back and work on the basics.

In reality, when you look around the world of business and see all of the new businesses popping up that surround the app economy, or the Internet of Things, or whatever term of the day is popular, it is pretty easy to get trapped in the idea that there is all of this new stuff going on…and there is, technology is rapidly altering the way that we can interact with people, places, and things, but in the end, the basics matter.

So this is going to be a sort of on going part of the blog where I talk about the basics of business and how we can go back, relearn them or bring them back to the forefront of our professional lives.

You know the types of things like:

Customer service

Smart marketing

Using common sense

Building relationships

Customer experience

What I will do to try and add a much needed bit of flavor to the proceedings is to take real world examples and show them to you in a way that is meaningful to you.

What do you say?

Let’s get back to basics…
