I’m going to try and be short and sweet this week for a lot of reasons that I won’t go into today.
Last year, I had a chance to become friendly with a woman called Dorie Clark, a bestselling author, when she put together one of her regular dinners where she invited lots of folks with interesting backgrounds, jobs, or stories.
Over the last month or so, I’ve been writing regularly here and everywhere about the need to relaunch your business as we recover from the coronavirus outbreak.
I was listening to a podcast episode last night while I was cleaning up the kitchen and it was a conversation that Dorie was having with a real estate developer and the gentleman asked her how you could know what your brand was in the market now. The way she presented it is valuable to us as we starting rethinking and reimagining and relaunching when we can.
She said, ask the folks you know and work with to describe you in 3 words.
Simple as that.
Then, when you have that image in your head, you can think about if that aligns with where you want to go to next.
If not, what words do you want folks to think about when they think about you?
What are you going to do to make the words you want people to think about you a reality?
As an added bonus while I was up last night reading, I dug out my Strength Finders test that I took back in 2005. If you don’t know the Strength Finders tests, Now Discover Your Strengths is the book that I think started it all, but it is the one I first came across.
You take the test, it gives you for five top strength, here are mine:
“MY SIGNATURE THEMES:
Futuristic: People strong in the Futuristic theme are inspired by the future and what could be. They inspire others with their visions of the future.
Activator: People strong in the Activator theme can make things happen by turning thoughts into action. They are often impatient.
Achiever: People strong in the Achiever theme have a great deal of stamina and work hard. They take great satisfaction from being busy and productive.
Intellection: People strong in the Intellection theme are characterized by their intellectual activity. They are introspective and appreciate intellectual discussions.
Competition: People strong in the Competition theme measure their progress against the performance of others. They strive to win first place and revel in contests.”
I don’t know what you think, but I can see where this is true.
Back to the three words idea, last year I did a survey of over a dozen folks that I respect, work with, or trust and had them do a 360 assessment of me.
I wanted folks to think about me in a more strategic way.
As I’ve been thinking through the coronavirus, I have three words in mind that I want to reflect me now…but I’ll save those for a later date in case any of you want to share the three words you think with me.
But this is my challenge to you, what are the three words people use to associate with you and what do you want them to be. Let me know.
And, if you are so inclined, tell me the three words you associate with me.
See you next week!
